The Founder’s Growth Playbook
A cheat sheet for founders scaling across borders
Are you a founder? Take note.
If you’re still treating expansion as a “later stage” move, you’re already behind.
We’re witnessing a shift where global expansion is no longer a milestone, but the starting point. The question isn’t if you scale internationally. It’s how fast you integrate into markets that reward execution and talent.
This is what’s actually working.
SCALING TO NEW MARKETS
Expansion Is Now an Operating Model
Expansion Programmes are becoming market entry kits.
The old model: raise → scale → expand. The new model: enter → deploy → get funded locally. Governments and ecosystems are competing to host startups. Recent initiatives show a clear pattern:
🇦🇪 du telecom launched du Ventures, a $50M fund managed by Shorooq to invest in AI, fintech, cybersecurity, cloud, gaming, and enterprise tech startups.
🇬🇧 UK launched a Sovereign AI Fund ($675M) offering home-grown AI startups fast-track visas, compute infrastructure and government procurement access, focused on AI models, agents and drug discovery projects. Startups can apply here.
🇮🇳 Indian Institute of Technology Madras launched a Silicon Valley accelerator programme to help Indian deep-tech startups expand into the U.S. market.
🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia is aggressively positioning itself as the GCC’s next scale-up hub:
· The Jameel Deeptech Initiative 2026 launched its second edition supporting deeptech startups in health, energy, and climate with venture-building and funding access.
· Saudi’s Biotechnology Growth Accelerator Programme 2026 is open, ready to scale-up life-science startups.
🇰🇷 South Korean is boosting its market expansion programmes:
· Food-tech startups are expanding into Japan through government-backed incubator programmes and expo participation in Tokyo.
· Korea OASIS startup visa programme is backing foreign founders with funding, investor access and a 7-month expansion programme into the US, Singapore, and Japan.
🇲🇾 /🇵🇭 Salesforce launched startup program in Malaysia and Philippines offering AI tools, mentorship, pilot access, and market-entry support to help startups scale.
🇦🇪 Sheraa (Sharjah Entrepreneurship Centre) launched a $1.3M (AED 5M) Entrepreneurs Resilience Fund with equity-free grants, plus structured support and market visibility. To apply visit https://sheraa.ae/erf .
Founder takeaway:
If you want funding and support, tap into a market where demand already exists.
THE MENA PULSE
Why are founders setting up in the UAE earlier than ever??
The UAE ranked #1 globally in entrepreneurship for the fifth straight year in the GEM 2025/2026 Report. Startups from Europe and Asia are setting up in the country early, and there’s reasons beyond zero taxes:
100% Foreign Ownership: After the Commercial Companies Law review, founders can now fully own onshore entities without local partners.
Fast Incorporation: Company set up in a UAE free zone takes as little as 1-3 days, making the country a leading global business hub in 2026.
Visa Facilitation: Dubai offers a 5-year Entrepreneur Golden Visa
Capital is moving to the region: Speedinvest launched dedicated funds for Middle East & Africa. The Viena-based VC, attending Expand North Star for the past 7 years, is backed by sovereign LPs Mubadala, QIA, EIB.
Pilot-to-Procurement Economy: Corporates and government-linked entities are actively funding solutions they can deploy immediately in AI, fintech and cybersecurity.
Founder takeaway:
Pin the UAE as your go-to-market strategy. Build for procurement reality, not pitch-deck aesthetics.
